At school, there are numerous ways to get involved and make a difference through the PTO. Every form of participation, whether big or small, is highly valued and crucial to our collective success! To help you find the perfect fit, here are descriptions of each committee. Please note that the committees are listed alphabetically. ARBOR DAY

 

Arbor Day is a special celebration dedicated to honoring trees and increasing awareness of their importance. It provides a wonderful opportunity to participate in tree-planting activities and involves students, parents, and teachers in promoting environmental conservation and a deeper appreciation for nature. BOOK FAIR

 

The PTO sponsors two Scholastic Book Fairs in the Fall and Spring to offer books to our students. Proceeds are used to purchase books for the Norwood teachers’ libraries or classroom. Volunteers are needed to set-up/take down the book fair structure, assist students in selecting age appropriate books and to manage the checkout process, including running the cash registers. BOX TOP FOR EDUCATION

 

A Box Top Committee is a group responsible for collecting, verifying, and submitting "Box Tops for Education" to raise funds for schools. They promote the program, allocate funds, and report on the money raised. For more information, please click here.

 

 

CARNIVAL

 

The PTO Carnival is a fun event to raise funds for the school. It features games, activities, food stands, and entertainment, bringing the school community together for a day of enjoyment and bonding. For more information, please click here.

 

CLASS PARENTS

 

Two parents from each class are needed to be the point of contact for each classroom teacher. Depending on the needs of particular teachers, they may help teachers coordinate volunteers and donations for their classroom. Class parents also relay valuable PTO information to the parents in their classes. The volunteer form for class and party parents is available on the PTO website. A coordinator will solicit volunteers at the beginning of the school year, assign class parents and communicate with volunteers about their role as class parent. EARS TUNED TO MUSIC/EYES ON ART

EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT/ AUTHOR DAY

 

Educational enrichment programs can be designed to cater to different interests and abilities, allowing students to explore areas that align with their individual strengths and aspirations. These programs often encourage hands-on learning, collaboration, and independent thinking, empowering students to become lifelong learners and well-rounded individuals. FAMILY PHOTO SESSION

 

Create cherished keepsakes but also support our school's PTO. A portion of the proceeds will directly benefit our school community, helping to fund valuable programs and resources for our students. We provide a selection of fall-themed props and scenic spots to make your photos even more magical. FIELD DAY

 

Field Day is a fun-filled, outside day of activities for our students. PTO volunteers facilitate games defined and set-up by the gym teacher(s). The day is broken into two sessions to accommodate the AM and PM schedules. Over 75 volunteers are needed to assist with the facilitation and clean-up of the event. HANDPRINT

 

Let your child create a lasting legacy at NPS by adding their handprint, name, and graduation year to the lunchroom walls. For further details, click here. This is a wonderful chance for your child to leave their mark on our school! 

 

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE

 

The PTO sponsors a holiday shop for students to make holiday purchases for family members. This committee selects a company to provide merchandise, selects the merchandise to be sold at the shop and coordinates volunteers to assist the students with purchases, wrap purchases and run the cash registers. The shop is open during school hours for one week in December. HOSPITALITY

KPSC

 

The Korean Parent Support Committee (KPSC) serves as the primary connection between the PTO and the Korean community. It plays a crucial role in welcoming and assisting newly settled Korean parents as they navigate the Norwood school system. LUNCH

 

The Lunch Committee is committed to offering affordable and high-quality hot lunch options for our Cornerstone students and families. Our program is entirely volunteer-run and directed, ensuring that we maintain control over the process. For more information, please click here.

 

NON-PROFIT/TAX

 

The Non-Profit/Tax Committee of our PTO is responsible for ensuring compliance with non-profit and tax regulations, as well as managing financial matters. We work closely with the PTO Board and Treasurer to maintain accurate records, file necessary tax forms, and provide guidance on financial best practices. We welcome volunteers with expertise or interest in non-profit management and tax matters. Together, we ensure the PTO operates within legal requirements and maintains financial transparency. ORIGINAL WORKS

 

The Original works Committee offers students the opportunity to turn a piece of artwork (done in art class) into a masterpiece! Student artwork can be transposed onto mugs, mouse pads, t-shirts, note cards, etc. which are available for purchase. These items make great gifts. Volunteers promote the program, collect and tally orders, and distribute the items to students and their families. PROJECT GRADUATION/ 8TH GRADE COMMITTEE

 

A Project Graduation or 8th Grade Committee is a dedicated group of volunteers or organizers responsible for planning and executing a special and safe event to celebrate the graduation of high school seniors or the transition of 8th-grade students to high school. SPIRIT WEAR SALE

 

The Spirit Wear Sale Committee organizes and coordinates the sale of school spirit wear, showcasing our school pride and community spirit. We work with vendors to offer a diverse selection of high-quality apparel and accessories. Our committee manages inventory, processes orders, and coordinates distribution.
